As wildfires continue to devastate Los Angeles, thousands of residents have been displaced, losing their homes and belongings in the chaos. From afar, it’s easy to feel powerless, but New Yorkers are proving that community spirit knows no bounds. In a heartwarming initiative, Brooklyn’s Migos Events and the vibrant restaurant Viva Toro have teamed up to collect clothing donations for those affected by the California fires. This compassionate effort not only offers support to our sister city but also highlights the resilience and unity of New Yorkers.

How You Can Help Fire Victims

If you’re looking to make a tangible difference, head over to Viva Toro, located at 987 Grand Street in East Williamsburg. Donations will be accepted on Sunday, January 12, Tuesday, January 14, and Wednesday, January 15, from 4 PM to 7 PM. The team is seeking gently used or new clothing for men, women, kids, and babies, as well as shoes and accessories. Please remember to pack your donations in bags to ensure they’re ready for shipping.

This initiative is a heartfelt reminder that even from thousands of miles away, we can show our support and solidarity in the face of tragedy. Migos Events emphasizes the importance of community, stating, “It’s important for us no matter where you live or come from to come together to rebuild after such a tragedy.”

Power of Community

The bond between New Yorkers and Angelinos is strong, and this donation drive illustrates how communities can rally together in times of need. The partnership between Migos Events and Viva Toro not only serves as a collection point for donations but also as a gathering space for the Latino community in Brooklyn to express their solidarity.

Paulina Montiel, co-runner of Migos Events, stresses the importance of community: “As we give a space for people to come to dance and celebrate Latino culture, it’s crucial to create a platform for our community to support one another.” This initiative is more than just a donation drive; it’s a celebration of culture, unity, and resilience.

New York’s Heart Shines Bright

As New Yorkers, we have the power to make a difference, no matter the distance. This clothing drive is a testament to the compassion that defines our city. By participating, we not only help those in need but also strengthen the bonds between our communities.

In a world that often feels divided, this initiative reminds us of the common humanity we all share. Through our actions, we can show that even in the face of disaster, hope prevails. So, gather your gently used clothing and head to Viva Toro—together, we can make a significant impact on the lives of those affected by the fires in L.A. New York stands with you, Los Angeles!
